Danile (“Ro”) is a native of St. Croix, USVI, an award-winning international singer-songwriter and recording artist, music industry veteran, activist, educator and former Minister of Music with experience across denominational lines. In his multi-disciplinary career he has been featured on international stages, television and recordings, and has worked at nearly all levels of entertainment; from Grammy’s to stadium tours, to international Jazz clubs and live recordings. Rogiérs’ musical catalogue consists of six (6) independent albums, over sixty (60) label releases and collaborations, and seven Artist Fellowship awards from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
For over 25 years Danile served across the United States in Christian congregations as a Minister of Music, organist and worship leader until an appeal to “free inquiry” in 2009 ultimately led him away from faith towards identifying as both an Atheist-Agnostic and Secular Humanist. Since then, he has served as a grassroots community leader, and advocated Civil rights and religious minority rights. Danile has advocated for Black secular representation in Congress, as an advisor to the Freethought Caucus and promoted education around ethics, social justice, stigma, for and within Black, and religious communities.
Ro hosts and produces Where We’re Headed podcast – an award-winning podcast detailing the legacy of religious dissent within the African Diaspora-highlighting Black Freethought at its intersection of resistance narrative(s), joy, LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 identity, and the cultural dynamics of religious and political hegemony. In 2022 he co-founded the Black Secular Collective, and currently leads the Black Secular Collective-DC, the largest grassroots, non-religious, Black secular organization in the Washington-DC area.
